Sean Miller, Owner AZ Earthworks, LLC
Sean has a long and impressive history in the transportation and construction industry. As a teenager, he grew up on a farm. Over time, the farmer next door was in need of heavy equipment to be moved, so Sean started to learn and do this with no CDL license.
At the age of 18, Sean learned and received his Commercial Driver License. He applied for countless jobs with trucking companies, but no one would hire him due to his young age. He received a great opportunity when a man named Rex hired him at Double D Transportation at the age of 18. Rex mentored him over the next few years and it great Sean’s skills to develop into an incredible, hard working driver. One cold October morning at 6:00am, he dropped off a 140H Motor Grader to a construction job site. The operator was a no show that morning and the Foreman asked Sean if he knew how to run the machine. Using the knowledge he was taught over the years, Sean helped the crew lay AB in the street. That was all it took for Sean to land his first construction job as an Equipment Operator. He would go on to operate a blade during the day and drive the truck at night hauling equipment.
Over time, in his early 20’s, Sean decided the time was right to purchase his own truck which worked out well until it started to take a toll working upwards of 18 hours a day. Sean made the leap and hired his first driver. With the continued growth and success, he added more equipment and staff to his company. The business continued to flourish until the downturn of 2008 where the construction industry took a spiraling hit. As with so many other construction companies that year, Sean made the grim decision to close the doors to his business.
Moving to Arizona in 2010, Sean helped his father with his family business. Living in his parents basement and working for free, Sean made it through the hard time as did so many other people during this gloomy period. A friend of his asked him to build a house pad, so he eagerly accepted. Gaining experience over the years, he continued to build house pads and eventually left the family business to start his own company. He bought a Motor Grader and went back to work in California with the Civil gates and commuted back and forth via Southwest. Working 14 days on and 4 days off, he would continue to build pads on his downtime.
In 2015, Sean’s daughter was born. This changed Sean’s life and ended his commute. He wanted to be home and be a good father. He readjusted the outlook of his business and purchases more equipment and trucks. Working for Rummel Construction, he ran the Motor Grader as an equipment operator during the day and ran his transportation company at night. He has so much gratitude towards Barry Larson from Rummel to give him the opportunity he had.
He left Rummel to fully operate AZ Earthworks, LLC. With his transportation client list growing, he hired new drivers and now has multiple transportation trucks in his fleet. Sean takes pride in helping each client to make sure great service and timely delivery takes place. A fun fact about AZ Earthworks. He has transported the heaviest equipment over the San Francisco bridge at 2.1 million pounds.
Outside of delivering equipment, he and his daughter have a love of horses. They spend countless hours enjoying the beauty and strength of them and being in the outdoors.
